Due to an unintentional glitch in Apple's iTunes last week, the world discovered that Adam Lambert and Kris Allen were the most sought after tracks purchased through the popular music service. It was identified that Lambert racked up an impressive six songs among the top ten, Kris filled in three spots and Danny Gokey notched the final track.
The mistaken unveiling can't be sitting well with American Idol's producers who painstakingly safeguard those sales numbers to hide the popularity of contestants from the American public. This revelation was a wet blanket for those who assume that we'll see the inevitable collision course of Lambert and Gokey in the final round. The supposed 'dark horse' of the competition Kris Allen doesn't seem to be playing second fiddle to Danny Gokey after all.
Largely these iTunes sales numbers show the commercial appeal of Kris Allen is stronger than Danny Gokey. While Gokey may have a smoother voice, he doesn't instill memorable performances in the same way that Kris does. More than anything these charts tell us what we already knew. Adam Lambert is a steamroller, swiftly pulverizing the other Idol contestants week after week. Whichever contestant finds themselves in the unenviable position of being matched up across from him in the final better bring their 'A'-game. Sadly, it's not going to be anywhere close to enough to counter the unstoppable force of Adam Lambert.
